Sheikh Russel Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship begins tomorrow

Sheikh Russel Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship begins from tomorrow (Thursday) at the sports hall of BangladeshChess Federation (BCF) in the city marking Sheikh Russel Day and the birthanniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Youth and Sports Secretary Mesbah Uddin is expected to inaugurate the eight-day meet as the chief guest at 3 pm.

Apart from host Bangladesh, all the countries of Zone 3.2 of the World chess organization, Bhutan, The Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are going to participate in the six-nation invitational team chess event, which will be held under the patronization of Saif Powertech Limited.

All teams will participate in round robin league system. After the end of the first phase, the super league will be held with the participation of top three teams. The super league will also be held in round robin league format.

A total of USD 10,000 will be awarded in this event, of which the champion team will receive USD 4,000, the runner-up team will have USD 3,000, the third-place finishers will receive USD 2,000 and the fourth-place
finishers will get USD 1,000 as prize money.

In this regards, a press conference was held today (Wednesday) at the sports room of BCL. BCF’s general secretary Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim, BCF’s joint secretary and International Organiser Masudur Rahman Mallik Dipu, BCF
executive members Zakir Ahmed and iternational organiser Mahmuda Hoque Chowdhury Moly and Chief Arbiter Haroon Or Rashid were present at the press conference.
