Bangladesh chess team takes solo lead after 2nd round

Bangladesh chess team took solo lead at the points table with maximum four points after the end of second round matches of six-nation Sheikh Russel Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship on Friday. BSS.

Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Pakistan shared the second position with two points.

The second round matches were held at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall room with Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 3-1 game points.

Bangladeshi grandmaster Enamul Hossain Razib, grandmaster Ziaur Rahman and International Master Mohammad Minhaz Uddin defeated FIDE Masters Amer Karim, Junaid Sohail and Muhammad Shahzeb of Pakistan respectively in the second round.

International master Mohammad Fahad Rahman lost to FM Muhammad Waqar of Pakistan. Sri Lanka beat Bhutan by 4-0 game points. International Master LMST De Silva, FIDE Master Liyanage Ranindu Dilshan, Kaluarachchi Achinthya Shamen and Tennakoon Lisara Samadhit of Sri Lanka defeated Karma Sonam, Sonam Choen, Sangay Nidup and Ugyen Wangchuk of Bhutan respectively.

Maldives beat Nepal by 2.5-1.5 game points with FIDE Master Mohammad Shuaau and Candidate Master Abdul Rahman Ali defeated FIDE Master Rajbhandari Rajendra and Bajracharya Rajendra of Nepal respectively.

Nepal’s Singhesor Das beat Maldives’ Ahmed Aman Ibrahim and Maldives’ Candidate Master Mohammed Hassan split point with Nepal’s FIDE Master Bilam Lal Shrestha.

The third round games start tomorrow (Saturday) at the same venue at 3 pm.

The third round matches are Nepal vs Pakistan, Sri Lanka vs Maldives and Bangladesh vs Bhutan.

The championship, sponsored by Saif Powertech Limited, is being held marking Sheikh Russel Day and birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
